community hub At swarthmore hall
We’re stepping into something big — bringing our two main spaces of worship together under one roof.
Why? Because worship isn’t just singing on a Sunday. It’s also serving those in need, loving our neighbours, and creating spaces where people can belong.
By uniting Plymouth Vineyard Church and Children’s Storehouse in one home, we get to live out that whole picture of worship in a clearer, stronger way.
We’re breathing new life into Swarthmore Hall on Mutley Plain, turning it into a place where community can genuinely thrive. It will become a shared home for Plymouth Vineyard Church, Children’s Storehouse, Devon & Cornwall Refugee Support and Radical Ecology. Each brings something unique, and together we’ll create a centre that connects the communities of Peverell, Mutley and Mannamead with the people who benefit from each of the services.
This isn’t just about a building. It’s about creating a home where we can worship, eat together, build friendships, and serve our city in practical, Jesus‑shaped ways. A place where support, creativity and community can grow.
And we’re only just getting started. Alongside shared workspaces, Swarthmore Hall will open up opportunities for:
- A large hall and kitchen available to hire
- Space for a potential community café
- A new exhibition area
- Artist studios
- A community garden
- And plenty more as the vision unfolds.
Building work has begun
We’re excited to share that building work is now underway at Swarthmore Hall.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who has supported and shared the vision, the first stages of refurbishment have started. This work will help create a warmer, more welcoming and energy‑efficient space, ready to become a shared home for church life and community use.
It’s a big milestone — and just the beginning. If you’d like to support the next stages of the project, you can give to the Hub, and follow us on Facebook to keep up with progress, stories and updates as the work continues.
