the 2025/26

internship programme

A year given over to God exploring his purposes for your life.

What is the Internship?

The Plymouth Vineyard Church Internship is a year’s leadership training where we invest in you in your leadership development. In turn you serve the church for a year: committing to 1.5 days a week and joining us in our mission to extend the Kingdom of God in Plymouth. You can specialise combining two of the following areas: Children, Youth, Students, Worship, Compassion and Evangelism.

What do we love about living in Plymouth?

Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, is a vibrant and interesting city in the South West of the UK. It has an amazing sea front and marina, and is surrounded by natural beauty which include the moors, the South Hams and over the water the beaches of Cornwall. As a large City with over 25,000 students there are a host of cultural and retail experiences throughout the year, but it is also a large urban population with significant social needs as well. There are many good churches in Plymouth who work together to address these needs and share the gospel.

Why should I consider being an intern?

We are a medium size church with a focus on discipleship, community and social action, so there are plenty of opportunities for hands on learning and leadership development. The Vineyard network offers a broader depth of training and experience that compliment the local context perfectly. You will take part in a recognised Vineyard training pathway, be assigned a mentor for the duration of the course and have regular internship coordinator meetings to support you in your development.

If you’re seeking God for what might be next in your life, feel at a crossroads, or simply want to take a year to deepen your training and explore your gifts, we’d love to hear from you and would encourage you to apply!

Who should apply?

The internship is open to anyone aged 21 and above. Those considering applying need to be mature in their faith and sensitive to the Holy Spirit, as well as able to operate with reasonable independence and demonstrate resilience and perseverance when things get tough. We are also looking for characteristics such as humility, teachability, and those who are open handed with how the Lord might want to use them during the year. Applicants also need to be willing to share the values of Plymouth Vineyard church.

A link to the application form can be found here

  • Once we've received your application, we'll then invite you to an informal interview. We are happy for this to take place online or in person. Following prayer and a process of discernment, we'll make a decision on whether to invite you to become part of the year.

  • You will need to be available for one day a week in term time, from 9.30am-4pm. You will also have serving responsibilities on Sundays, and at other events during the week.

There is also likely to be a few weekends away such as a visit to another Vineyard church and national conferences such as the Vineyard Leaders’ Gathering and the Vineyard Worship Gathering.

  • There is no charge for the year, however we would expect you to get a job for 3 or 4 days a week to cover your living and accommodation costs. We will fund your attendance at the Vineyard National Leaders Gathering and one other conference in the year. If you take the Vineyard Leadership College route you will need to pay half of the fees (or a third if you are successful in getting a bursary).

  • No, you don't need transport to take part in the year. The church office is in the City Centre and bus and cycle routes are good. If you do have a car though and would like to bring it, that would be helpful.

  • Unfortunately not, however we will help you where we can and pray with you as you search for somewhere to live.

More About Plymouth Vineyard

The Church is led by our lead Pastors, Arthur and Sarah Goode, supported by an experienced and gifted leadership team. We are proud to be a multi-generational and ethnically diverse church, which places a high emphasis on discipleship, community, social action and Kingdom values lived out. We manage two large compassion projects - Children’s Storehouse and Uniform Store Plymouth out of our city centre premises - a converted shop in Plymouth City Centre, and work closely with other churches and secular organisations in so doing.
